The Eagle is depicted flying under the rays of the sun enjoying the freedom provided by Lady Liberty draped in the American flag with a part of the words In God We Trust. The back has the high relief Great Seal of the United States marked with E Pluribus Unum. Latin for Out of many, one. Its inclusion on the seal was approved in an act of the U.S. Congress in 1782. The design used the eagle that holds a scroll in its beak with the E Pluribus Unum motto; in one claw is an olive branch, a symbol of peace, and the other claw holds thirteen arrows, a symbol of war.

The result is a metal alloy called sterling silver which is much harder. To make sterling silver you would alloy 92.5% pure silver with 7.5% copper to achieve a stronger more durable metal.
